The vascular department was opened in January 1987. The opening of the surgical department of the vascular profile was due to the need to provide specialized, highly qualified care to patients with vascular pathology, an increase in the proportion of diseases of the cardiovascular system. Initially, the department consisted of 40 beds, in 1991 it was expanded to 60 beds, in 2012, due to the restructuring of the bed fund in the region, it was again reduced to 40 beds. From 1987 to 2010, the department was headed by Ph.D., Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation N.L. Kruglov. From 2010 to 2021, the department was headed by his student V. I. Makhonin. At present, the department is headed by Alexander N. Kruglov.

Priority areas of work: surgical treatment of diseases of the extracranial parts of the cerebral arteries, diseases of the peripheral arteries, the formation of permanent vascular access. The department has 40 beds for round-the-clock stay, including 2 and 4-bed wards. There is a superior room. The number of employees is 11.

Surgical care is provided to patients in Lipetsk and the Lipetsk region, as well as to patients in other regions of Russia and neighboring countries.

Patients for planned surgical interventions are sent to the department after a preliminary outpatient examination by a vascular surgeon in the LOCB polyclinic (3rd floor, rooms 301 and 303). If necessary, patients undergo a preliminary course of preoperative preparation.

Emergency surgical care is provided around the clock. The department employees are on duty at the clinic and receive patients with emergency vascular pathology and vascular injuries.

The department staff regularly provide emergency surgical care in the Lipetsk region as part of air ambulance trips.

The Department of Vascular Surgery uses modern diagnostic methods:

  • angiography;
  • ultrasonic duplex scanning;
  • ultrasound dopplerography;
  • ECHO-KG;
  • computed tomography with intravenous contrast;
  • nuclear magnetic resonance imaging;
  • radiography.

The department's surgeons perform the whole range of modern operations for the pathology of the terminal section of the aorta, the main arteries of the upper and lower extremities, brachiocephalic arteries, operations for varicose and post-thrombotic diseases of the lower extremities. Up to 90 reconstructive operations on the aorto-iliac segment are performed per year, about 15 resections of abdominal aortic aneurysms, 70 - 80 femoral-popliteal shunts and loop debliterations. During these operations, modern alloprostheses from leading companies are used, mainly from PTFE, with a zero porosity. The number of operations on the brachiocephalic arteries is increasing every year. In 2020, 60 endarterectomies from the internal carotid arteries were performed. Considering the intensive development of endovascular surgery in recent years, the method of treatment for each patient is selected individually, together with endovascular surgeons. It is planned to purchase an angiographic complex for hybrid operations.

Up to 650 phlebectomies are performed annually in the vascular department, while the miniflebectomy technique is widely used in order to achieve the maximum cosmetic effect. In the treatment of complicated forms of post-thrombotic disease, along with traditional antiplatelet, phlebotropic therapy, toilet of wound defects and physiotherapy, methods of extracorporeal treatment are used, such as intravascular laser blood irradiation, blood ultraviolet irradiation, plasmapheresis, and hyperbaric oxygenation.

In 2021, the branch began to develop paid services. Patients are being enrolled for sclerotherapy. It is planned to purchase the EVLK complex, pneumomassage.

The doctors of the department regularly attend scientific and practical conferences and congresses.
