Department of Neurosurgery

In 1959, 5 years after the establishment of the Lipetsk Regional Clinical Hospital, a neurosurgery department with 30 beds was opened. Zhitkov M.V. created and headed the department for 18 years, worked with him, and then headed the department A.P. Belyaev. Since October 1, 2001, the department is headed by Ph.D. doctor of the highest qualification category L.V. Osolodchenko

In January 2009, the department was reorganized and a specialized department of anesthesiology and resuscitation was opened for the treatment of neurosurgical patients.

The department has a powerful diagnostic base, including angiography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Operating rooms are equipped with the most modern equipment: a microscope, a navigation station, an ultrasonic aspirator, a high-speed drill-trepan, an X-ray machine, an endoscopic stand. The department performs the whole range of neurosurgical interventions. Anesthetic benefits and further treatment in the immediate postoperative period are carried out by specialists of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation for the treatment of neurosurgical patients.

In recent years, thanks to modern equipment, when removing tumors of the central nervous system, modern techniques of minimally invasive neurosurgical interventions have been worked out. In the department, operations are performed for tumors not only in the cranial cavity, but also for tumors that spread to adjacent areas: the orbit, nose, paranasal sinuses.

In operations on the spine and spinal cord, the latest techniques of decompression and fixation are used with the use of modern metal structures and endovideosurgery.

The use of modern diagnostic methods, anesthetic and surgical aids, as well as intensive care have made it possible to reduce postoperative mortality during planned operations to practically zero.

During the coronavirus pandemic, when both city neurosurgical departments were closed, during the year, working for three, the regional neurosurgery department on its own successfully coped with the provision of both emergency and planned care to patients from the entire Lipetsk region.
