Department of surgery

Head of the department Pavel Alexandrovich Sundeev

The surgical department was organized among the first departments in the organization of the regional hospital in 1954.

The organization of the surgical department was dictated by the need to provide emergency surgical and specialized care in various areas of surgical specialties. From 1954 to 1967 the surgical department was headed by Sergey N. Venyaminov. The department provided assistance to patients of general surgical and urological profile.

At the origins of the surgical service of the Lipetsk region were: honored doctors: Venyaminov Sergey Nikolaevich and Vinokurova Raisa Fominichna, Okulevich Yulia Vladimirovna, Zaitseva Olga Konstantinovna, Odinochenko Vitaly Petrovich. Zhilin Viktor Efimovich, Mamonov Vladimir Sergeevich, Dmitriev Ivan Mikhailovich made a great contribution to the development of the department. From 2014 to 2020, the department was headed by Sergey V. Sundeev. Currently, the department is headed by P. A. Sundeev.

Since its inception, the department has been widely presented with surgery of the stomach and biliary tract, and then proctological operations. Later, vascular surgery became more widely used. The first surgeons in the department mastered organ-saving operations for peptic ulcer disease, reconstructive operations in the biliary tract. In the 70s, the surgical department widely operated on the lungs for nonspecific diseases and tumors. Here the first pancreatoduodenal resections were made, in 1982 they were performed by V.E. Zhilin. and Odinochenko V.P., surgery for pancreatic cysts. Since the end of the 80s, endoscopic methods of surgical interventions have been introduced. In this department, for the first time in the field, methods of extracorporeal detoxification were widely used for peritonitis.

The main areas of activity of the department today are:

  • introduction of anatomical liver resections

  • improvement of reconstructive operations for high strictures of hepaticocholedochus

  • Together with the endoscopic department, a staged approach was developed in the treatment of obstructive jaundice using bilioduodenal, pancreatoduodenal prosthetics

  • introduction of puncture methods for drainage of the bile ducts and gallbladder, residual cavities, cysts, abscesses of the abdominal cavity

  • improvement of techniques for pancreatoduodenal resection, reconstructive operations on the stomach, biliary tract

  • improvement of methods of tension-free abdominal wall plasty

  • expanding the range of laparoscopic operations.

The surgical department takes over the most difficult contingent of surgical patients in the region and the city.

Over the past 10 years, more than 15 thousand surgical interventions have been performed. Behind these operations there is a lot of work of surgeons who, in different periods of formation and development, created the authority and prestige of the surgical department. In the practice of the surgical department, almost all types of video laparoscopic operations, the entire arsenal of intraluminal fibroendoscopic interventions are performed. The most complex operations on the liver and pancreas are successfully carried out.

About 55% of all abdominal operations are laparoscopic. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, adrenalectomy, correction of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and esophageal achalasia have become the gold standard.
