Endocrinology department

The endocrinology department on the basis of the Lipetsk Regional Clinical Hospital has been operating since 1986, designed for 30 inpatients. Head of the department N.P. Gorbunov.

Currently, the LOCB has created a modern hormonal laboratory with a wide range of studies, as well as a radiation diagnostics department with a good diagnostic base (equipment for ultrasound scanning, X-ray computed tomography (RCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and X-ray bone densitometry. Thanks to this, it became possible to treat rare endocrine pathology.

In recent years, methods for determining plasma normetanephrine, metanephrine, aldosterone and renin have been introduced in the immunological laboratory of the Leningrad Regional Clinical Hospital with exercise tests for the differential diagnosis of hormone-active adrenal tumors with arterial hypertension.

New medical technologies are used in the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. The use of daily glucose monitoring systems in the practice of an endocrinologist allows you to select the optimal scheme of antihyperglycemic therapy, which further contributes to the prevention and minimization of the development of acute and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus.

An alternative to intensified insulin therapy has emerged in the form of insulin pump therapy, which in a certain contingent of patients makes it possible to achieve ideal compensation for carbohydrate metabolism.

Much attention is also paid to the prevention of late complications of diabetes. Since 1997, modern methods of examination of diabetic patients have been used, which allow early diagnosis of kidney pathology and assess the degree of disturbances in carbohydrate metabolism indicators over the past three months (urine microalbumin, glycated hemoglobin, fructosamine).

In recent years, the diagnostic capabilities of detecting thyroid pathology have increased (targeted puncture biopsy under ultrasound control, a full range of hormonal studies).

In order to diagnose and monitor osteoporosis, X-ray densitometry is used as the most accurate method for measuring bone mineral density, as well as laboratory diagnostics of markers of the state of mineral metabolism and its regulation (parathyroid hormone, blood calcitonin, 5.25 (OH) vitamin D, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase ). In the medical practice of an endocrinologist, various methods of treating patients with osteoporosis are used, depending on the stage and variant of osteoporosis.

Optimization of diagnostic and therapeutic methods under the condition of uniform approaches and continuity in the treatment of patients between endocrinologists, surgeons, doctors of the paraclinic service of the LOCH largely determines the success of treatment of patients with endocrine system pathology.
